Explore the culture and traditions of the Zulu tribe during this unique and informative visit to the Dumazulu Traditional Village.

Depart the pier for the drive on the National Highway towards Mtubatuba, then continue north to Thundering Zulu, or Dumazulu. Upon arrival, you will proceed to the Dumazulu Traditional Village for an opportunity to participate in an authentic Zulu cultural experience.

The Dumazulu Traditional Village is home to more than 50 Zulu residents that form part of a living museum. It is the largest Zulu village of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and the only Zulu village to be opened up to tourism by King Goodwill Zwelithini, who placed the Royal Zulu stamp of approval on the objectives and authenticity of Dumazulu.

Upon arrival, you will be introduced to your guides, then be invited into the chief's homestead, or kraal. Here, you can watch and learn about the various Zulu traditions, including basket-weaving, spear and shield-making, beadwork, pot-making, sangoma bone-throwing, and spectacular Zulu dancing.

Refreshments will be served before returning to the quayside.

Please note: This tour involves a substantial amount of walking over uneven gravel at the Zulu Village, which can be slightly muddy after heavy rain. Guests with limited mobility and guests in wheelchairs can manage this tour with the assistance of a traveling companion The drive from the pier to the village is approximately 1.5 hours in each direction. Guests are encouraged to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. It is customary for unmarried Zulu women to go topless. No photographs or videos may be taken of the traditional healer, or sangoma.
