What better way to experience a destination up-close than on foot? This delightful walking tour will give you the opportunity to admire Helsinki's highlights with more detail than would be possible traveling by vehicle.
It's a short transfer from the pier to the heart of the city, Senate Square. Here, you will see the elegant Lutheran Cathedral where a brief stop is made for photos of the Cathedral and Senate Square. From here, you will continue through the city center towards the Railway Station, another symbol of the Finnish National Romantic architecture. From the Station's perimeter you will have a good view of Helsinki's National Theater and National Gallery. Just a bit further along, you'll stop and enjoy a cup of fresh coffee and a pastry served in one of the many coffee venues found in Helsinki's downtown area.
Your walking tour resumes as you make your way to Mannerheim Street, Helsinki's main thoroughfare where you will see Helsinki's museum of Contemporary Art, National Museum, the new Music Hall and the House of Parliament among others. Leaving Mannerheim Street behind, you will next arrive at the world famous Rock Church. Built in 1969 this church was built by blasting rocks from inside out and as a final touch it received a copper dome making this a truly unique worldwide place to visit.
Lastly, you will walk towards Sibelius Park. The name given to the park honors Finland's greatest composer, Jean Sibelius. On the way, you will pass by the rowing Stadium built for the Olympic Games held in Helsinki 1952 and see the beautiful coastline. Arriving at Sibelius Park you will be able to view the monument held in his honor that is composed of approximately 600 steel pipes. Following your time at the park, your transportation will be waiting to transfer you directly back to the ship.
