Take a coach ride bound for Peterhof Palace via the new districts of St. Petersburg, the countryside and the former Grand Dukes' residences including the Constantine Palace, the official residence of the Russian President. Once at Peterhof, you'll begin a guided tour of the 300-acre Lower Park with its system of fountains. The elaborate system includes four cascades as well as 174 fountains, with the Samson Fountain considered the most impressive fountain complex in the world.
During your tour, you'll view the Marine Canal, the Monplaisir Palace and Monplaisir Garden with it statues and fountains, including the statues of Peter the Great, the Sun Fountain and the Roman Fountains. The most impressive is the Grand Cascade with its central figure of Sampson opening the jaws of the lion. Several trick fountains designed by Peter the Great himself are of special interest. They include the Bench Fountains, the Oak Tree and the Umbrella.
Having passed along the Monplaisir Alley, you'll find yourself near the Chessboard Cascade, where the excursion train will be waiting to take you across another area of the park and to the neighboring park of Alexandria. Along the way, you'll view the Cottage Palace, the Farmer's Palace, the Gothic Chapel and other places of interest. You'll also enjoy an approximate 30-minute ride on the miniature train.
