Marvel at the flora flourishing in Bremen’s esteemed botanical park, followed by a walking tour of the architectural splendor within the city center.
Depart from the pier and drive south for approximately one-hour to Bremen. Because of the local climate and fertile soil, the area flourishes botanically, especially in gardens such as Rhododendron-Park. While the city’s original botanical garden was created in 1905, it was later moved to this location, where it has thrived for more than 75 years.
The park’s collection of rhododendrons and azaleas numbers a staggering 10,000, making it the second largest in the world. Accompanied by a botanical expert, you will walk along the winding paths learning about the more than 1,000 species that thrive here. Among the highlights are the densely vegetated rhododendron forest, heath garden and medicinal plants.
During your guided walking tour of the city center, you may pass icons such as Bremen’s beautiful town hall, the original section of which was constructed in the 15th century. Nearby you’ll find a 600-year-old statue of Roland and a bronze sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians, four fairytale animals immortalized in a story by the Brothers Grimm. Following some free time to shop or further explore on your own, you’ll rejoin your coach and make the drive back to the pier.
