Enjoy a leisurely walk through Lysekil, taking in the fresh sea air and the most important attractions such as the aquarium, art nouveau church and 200-year-old Old Town.
Depart from the pier and enjoy a short drive across town to the Havets Hus Aquarium, where hundreds of different species from the surrounding waters are on display in more than 40 saltwater tanks. The variety of marine life is spectacular. You might walk through a clear underwater tunnel past spiny dogfish, cod and congers. You may see divers feeding the various fish, seals frolicking in their habitats, or even hold a hermit crab. Many of the species come from the depths of nearby Gullmar Fjord and are somewhat rare.
From here, it’s on to the Lysekil Church, which was built in 1901 from granite that stonemasons quarried locally. Designed in the art nouveau style, the interior is as magnificent as it is serene. The church’s spire soars more than 300 feet in the air and sailors have long relied on it as a navigational landmark.
Your walk continues into the 200-year-old Gamla Stan or Old Town. It’s a wonderful setting of narrow alleyways and colorful wooden houses. Following your guided tour here, you will have some free time to explore on your own. If you are drawn to arts and crafts, you will find a number of workshops where artisans create beautiful handmade objects. Afterwards, you will board your coach for the short transfer back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of walking, plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. There is a small climb to reach the church. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
