Tallinn boasts one of the finest medieval Old Towns in all of Northern Europe. Enjoy the view from your coach as you pass the Old Town wall with its towers from the 13th through 15th centuries, followed by the National Opera House and Freedom Square.
You're headed to Toompea Hill (Dome Hill), originally the seat of the ruling bishops, then of the Teutonic Order and later of the Baltic German nobility. Today Toompea is the site of the Parliament of Estonia and many historical landmarks such as the Long Hermann Tower, the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Alexander Nevsky, the Lutheran Dome Church (St. Mary's Cathedral) with its 100 Coats of Arms, and the House of the Estonian Knighthood.
As you stroll through the narrow cobblestone lanes and blind alleys of the former nobility district, you will pass by some gorgeous city palaces that once belonged to noblemen. Before rejoining your coach, you will stop at a viewpoint to take in the magnificent vistas of the Lower Town's red rooftops and soaring church steeples.
Next, you will visit Saue Manor, a nobleman's country home. Saue holds the title of the most beautiful and valuable estate complex in the Baltic. Although the manor was first mentioned in the 16th century, it was the Major Friedrich Herman von Fersen who founded the Saue Manor House as it is today. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine while you listen to stories about the house.
Next you will visit Esko Farm, a family-operated farm specializing in rearing dairy cows. The farm was established in 1991 with only eight cows, and there are now more than 100, which are milked to produce cheese and curds for sale to bakeries and restaurants in Tallinn. In 2003 Esko was awarded a medal for the high quality of its dairy products, and the family welcomed the President of Estonia for a visit. Before you head back to the ship, you'll have the chance to taste the farm's fresh produce.
Please note: This tour includes active walking over cobblestone surfaces and includes stairs. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and not considered suitable for those with mobility concerns.
