Leaving the harbor, you will pass the shipyard, Embassy Park, Market Square, Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral and the Presidential Palace before stopping at Senate Square. Continue past the opera house, Olympic Stadium, Finlandia Hall, National Museum, Parliament House and the contemporary art museum Kiasma, which was designed by American architect Steven Holl in 1998. Then, depart the city, heading east to Porvoo, which dates back to 1346, making it the second oldest town in Finland. A photo stop will be made at the old bridge of Porvoo, which offers magnificent views. Then enjoy a guided walk through some of the cobblestone streets of this charming town. Take some time to explore independently before passing along the Porvoo river to board your sightseeing boat.
Your guided cruise will take you along the Porvoo River and through parts of the Gulf of Finland archipelago, giving you another view of Finland's naturally beautiful countryside. Before long, you will arrive at Haikko Manor for lunch. Overlooking the Gulf of Finland, the current manor was designed by architect Armas Lindgren. The original manor from 1362 was owned by the Dominican Monastery of Vyborg, Russia. If time allows after lunch, you may explore some of the grounds before beginning your coach ride back towards Helsinki. Upon arrival, you will visit the unique Temppeliaukio Rock Church, which was blasted out of solid rock, and then return to the ship.
Important Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.75 mile over even and cobblestone surfaces with some inclines and steps. Tour sequence may vary in order to avoid congestion. The Temppeliaukio Rock Church sometimes holds religious functions, so it is not guaranteed that it will be open during all calls. Free time in Porvoo lasts approximately 45 minutes.
