Visit a Viking ship museum and an historic Cathedral on this tour that travels to the charming city of Roskilde.

Roskilde is internationally famous for its annual rock music festival, but it also features some wonderful historic attractions, such as the Viking Ship Museum, sight of your first stop. During your visit at the museum, you'll gain insights into the fascinating era of the Vikings. On display here are five Viking longboats which were sunk over a thousand years ago and recovered by an underwater expedition in 1962. Surveying these amazing ships, you will appreciate how well-preserved they are and how beautifully the museum showcases these unique vessels. For the story of how the ships were excavated, view a short film, and to discover your inner Viking, don a costume and board a life-sized ship model, where you can act out a scene from centuries ago.

Next, you'll glimpse a history that traces back to the 10th century with your visit to Roskilde Cathedral. Around 960 AD, Roskilde was named the new capital of Denmark, and a small wooden church was built and dedicated to the Holy Trinity. When Roskilde became the seat of the Bishop of Roskilde in 991 AD, the wooden church was replaced with one made of stone. The cathedral's transformation continued with an ambitious expansion in 1200 AD utilizing brick, which was at that time a new building material. More than 3,000,000 bricks were used, making Roskilde the first Gothic cathedral to be built of brick. In 1995, the Roskilde Cathedral was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Following your memorable visit to Roskilde, you'll transfer back to the pier in Copenhagen.

Please note: It is recommended that guests dress in warm, layered clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes. Guests should also bring raingear in case of inclement weather. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
