Copenhagen - the capital city of the kingdom of Denmark since 1417, is a city in which the modern developments of the 20th century, far from spoiling the atmosphere of history and old-world charm, have been blended with the older buildings and monuments to form a thriving and harmonious environment.
The best way to learn and experience the atmosphere of Copenhagen city is to do it by walking through its streets, crossing the bustling squares and passing the Copenhageners on their way from one place to another.
Meeting your guide on the pier, you'll commence your walking tour by following the harbor front, passing the Langelinie Yacht Marina and then on to the original location of the famous Little Mermaid, which has become a symbol of Denmark. Continue along the green park and harbor area up to the modern, but elegant Amaliengarden, with the Queen's Palace, Amalienborg right behind the garden.
Near the Amalienborg Palace you will come upon the Nyhavn canals. Nyhavn was previously the sailors' quarter, but is today a fashionable promenade with restaurants and bars, but still retaining the atmosphere of the sea and the past.
Crossing the King's New Square where the Royal Theater is located, you'll make your way into the medieval section of Copenhagen where the cobblestone streets, lovingly restored half-timbered houses, and narrow courtyards still dominate the landscape. You will also pass by Christiansborg Castle which houses the Danish Parliament. Your route navigates through the narrow streets and eventually brings you back to the King's New Square where you'll join your shuttle for the transfer back to the ship.
Please note: This tour includes extensive walking, approximately 4 miles (3 hours) over both even surfaces and cobblestone streets. There will be some steps and inclines to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns and participants should be in good physical condition. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking or hiking shoes are recommended. This tour will operate in all weather conditions so participants should take appropriate weather gear with them. One beverage per person will be served at one of the local taverns/cafes in Nyhavn at the direction of the guide.
