This tour consists of some of the main sights of Helsinki and a visit to Hvittrask.

Begin by driving past the shipyard along the coastal road, Embassy Park and the colorful open-air market, before stopping at Senate Square, known for its elegant Lutheran Cathedral. Then proceed to Mannerheim Street, Helsinki's main thoroughfare, where you will see the Parliament House, National Museum and Finlandia Hall, the concert and convention center designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto. You will also pass Kiasma, a contemporary art museum designed by the American architect Steven Holl.

Continuing on, you will see the city's opera house and the stadium that hosted the 1952 Olympics, before stopping at the unique Temppeliaukio Rock Church, which was blasted out of solid rock. Then, it's on to Hvittrask, the former home of the famous Finnish architects Eliel Saarinen, Armas Lindgren and Herman Gesellius. Built in 1902, Hvittrask is an architectural gem with buildings made of natural stone and logs. Hvittrask is also the birthplace of Eliel's son Eero Saarinen, who became an architect best known for designing the TWA terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport, the Arch of St. Louis and Washington Dulles Airport. Situated on a forested hill overlooking a lake, Hvittrask is now an exhibition center for Finnish arts and crafts. You will have time to explore the grounds and the magnificent home of Eliel Saarinen. Afterwards, you will return to your ship.

important Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.25 mile over even and cobblestone surfaces, some level gravel with 30 to 50 steps. Tour sequence may vary in order to avoid congestion. The Temppeliaukio Rock Church sometimes holds religious functions. It cannot be guaranteed that it will be open during all calls. Guests on the morning departure may stay in town at the end of the tour.
