POST - 3 CAPTIVATING CAPITALS

POST - 3 CAPTIVATING CAPITALS

NOTE: This program ends in Brussels therefore departing flights should be booked from Brussels (BRU).

Discover three of Europe's most unforgettable capitals-Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg-taking in their architectural landmarks and historical districts with abundant free time to explore even further.

Day 1

After disembarking from the ship in Amsterdam, you will then tour the vibrant capital of the Netherlands by coach. Among the highlights are the Baroque-style Royal Palace at the Dam Square, where the queen resides when not in The Hague, the 550-year-old Nieuwe Kerk or New Church, and the Mint Tower, which was constructed over a medieval gate in 1618. Its name comes from the fact that coins were once minted here. You may also view The Weeper's Tower, which was once part of Amsterdam's defensive walls.

Afterwards, you will drive to the train station and board a high-speed train for Brussels. While the distance between the two cities is more than 100 miles, the trip only takes two hours. A light lunch will be served as you travel in Comfort 1 Class.

Upon arriving in Brussels, you will transfer to the Le Meridien Brussels hotel and check in. After which, you will enjoy a guided walking tour of Belgium's capital. There is plenty to see nearby, including the 19th-century Royal Palace and Grand Place, a beautiful square surrounded by museums, Neo-Gothic buildings and Baroque guild houses. The square has been the heart of the city since the Middle Ages.

Then, following some time to settle in at the hotel, you will drive to the Atomium for dinner. Built for the 1958 World Fair, the steel-clad Atomium building consists of nine interconnected spheres that represent the shape of an iron atom enlarged 165 billion times. You'll dine in the Belgium Taste restaurant on Level 8 in one of the building's upper molecules, where the views are spectacular.

Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for the evening.

Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will enjoy a scenic drive southeast to tiny, land-locked Luxembourg for a tour of its capital city, Luxembourg. Reminiscent of a fairytale city, its Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with wonderful landmarks such as the Palace of the Grand Dukes. Originally Luxembourg's city hall, this 16th-century palace now serves as the official residence of the Grand Duke.

You will also see the iconic stone tower or "hollow tooth" from the Dent Creuse castle, which is all that remains from the original fortification that was built in 965 A.D.

Afterwards, you will enjoy several hours of free time in the Old Town for shopping. Chocolates, porcelain and traditional bird whistles made of clay are among the most popular, easy-to-carry merchandise. Later in the afternoon, you will drive back to the hotel in Brussels and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 3

Your day starts with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a leisurely drive to Bruges, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. Accompanied by a guide, you will meander down the narrow, twisting cobbled streets, past centuries-old buildings with gabled facades, and along the tree-lined maze of waterways. Sights include the Belfry Tower, Town Hall and Basilica of the Holy Blood, so named because it holds a rock-crystal vial of blood said to be from Jesus Christ.

The guided portion of your tour also includes a 30-minute canal boat ride and a relaxing three-course lunch. The remainder of the afternoon in Bruges will be yours to enjoy as you please. You might wish to shop or browse some of the museums. There is one dedicated to diamonds and another to chocolate. For art dating back to the 15th century, the Groeninge Museum is a must-see.

Back in Brussels, the evening will also be at your leisure, giving you time to take full advantage of the city's eclectic nightlife. There are pubs, nightclubs and theaters for all tastes.

Day 4

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport, where the tour guide will assist you with regard to your return flight.

Transfers will be arranged according to your flight details. For guests with later flights, luggage storage will be available at the hotel.
