Calling all adventure lovers! If you are physically fit, healthy and brave enough, the Rope Bridge Challenge awaits. Carrick-a-Rede boasts an exhilarating rope bridge experience that won't soon be forgotten. Traditionally, fishermen erected the bridge to Carrick-a-Rede Island over a 98 feet deep and 65 feet wide chasm to check their salmon nets and walking across this bridge will be the highlight of your adventure.
Traveling by coach from the pier, you will drive inland via Ballycastle to the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. Upon arrival, set out on foot along a winding and bumpy pathway (just over a 1/2 mile) to climb the steps that leads to the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. Along the way, there are wonderful vantage points to stop and take in the natural beauty of this wonderful setting. The geology, flora and fauna have won Carrick-a-Rede recognition as an area of special scientific interest. The moment of truth awaits as you find yourself at the bridge. It is definitely not for those who are faint of heart of afraid of heights as it sways some 98 feet above steep cliffs and crashing waves.
Once you have completed your bridge crossing and your heart rate has returned to normal, re-board your coach for a short drive to the nearby village of Bushmills where tea/coffee & scones will be served.
After what will surely be a memorable day, sit back and enjoy a relaxing journey back to the ship as your coach returns to the Belfast port.
