Take an exhilarating powerboat cruise through the breathtakingly beautiful Summer Isles in a custom-built Rigid Inflatable Boat, affording you a unique perspective of the islands and the wildlife living there.
After a brief walk along the pier, you will reach Centaur, a 12-passenger Rigid Inflatable Boat (R.I.B). After a safety briefing, you will board the R.I.B. and settle in for a cruise through the Summer Isles, a group of islands that has become a haven for birds and is surrounded by marine life.
Departing the harbor in Loch Broom, you will head northwest, first coming to Isle Martin, which lies less than a mile off the mainland across from the ancient Viking fort of Dun Canna. Birds here are abundant; including red-throated divers, northern fulmars and twites, small members of the finch family whose call is a distinctive “twit.”
Next, you will pass Horse Island, an isle inhabited by a herd of wild goats and a colony of seals. Then, you’ll zip over to Tanera Mor, the largest of the Summer Isles and the only one inhabited by humans. Herons, buzzards and red grouse are commonly seen here.
Conditions permitting, you will then cruise past Cathedral Cave on Tanera Beg. Being large and open to the sea, the cave provides prime shelter for nesting cormorants and shags, a type of seabird with a long neck and characteristic steep forehead.
Following your both scenic and fun adventure, you will disembark back at the pier.
