Explore the panoramic beauty of the Tórshavn area during this picturesque journey to Streymoy Island, and above the North Valley.
Depart the pier for the drive up the scenic ridge-top road that runs along the southern part of Streymoy Island. A brief stop will then beat a viewpoint above Tórshavn. Here, you will take in spectacular views and photo opportunities overlooking this colorful capital city, as well as historic Tinganes, the rocky peninsula in Tórshavn Harbor where ancient Vikings once met. Your drive will then continue through the green sheep pastures above Tórshavn; keep your eyes peeled for the stone cairns that marked the footpaths between villages in ancient times.
Next, another photo stop will be made above the North Valley, or Norðradalur. On clear days, a dramatic view of Koltur Island can be seen. Farther north, you will see the Kaldbak and Kollafjørður fjords below. Your drive will then descend into a valley, and pass charming villages along the way.
On the return drive to the pier, you will return to Tórshavn through a 1.86-mile-long tunnel, then along a fjord at sea level. Here, you will be able to see salmon jumping in sea farms near the shore.
