This amazing trip provides a unique opportunity to see the highlights of the Russian capital in one day.
Accompanied by a St. Petersburg guide, you will transfer from the cruise ship pier to the St. Petersburg railway station for a 4-hour ride on a "Sapsan" high-speed train. Your train may reach speeds as high as 160 miles per hour as you travel through the Russian countryside. During your train ride, relax and enjoy a boxed breakfast on board.
Arriving at the railway station in Moscow, you will be greeted by a local guide who will accompany you during your visit of the city. Your sightseeing begins with a drive to Red Square, traveling via the city center. En route, you will see how the years of communism have affected peoples' lives and the architecture of the city. From Red Square you will have an excellent view of the world-famous St. Basil Cathedral with its multi-colored, onion-shaped domes. This location also provides a perfect opportunity for photos of the Kremlin towers and Lenin's Tomb (on occasion, time constraints or activities taking place in Red Square may prevent an up-close view of the tomb). During your tour, you will also take a short ride on the Moscow metro. Muscovites are justifiably proud of their metro system. Not only is it an efficient and reliable means of public transport, it is also recognized as a museum of sorts, as many of its stations are richly decorated with mosaics, crystal chandeliers and marble columns and walls.
Mid-day, you will stop for a refreshing coffee break. This short rest period will give you a boost of energy to continue exploring the very heart of Moscow - the Kremlin. Arriving at the Kremlin, a 15th-century fortress complex located in the center of the city, you will tour the Armory Chamber. The Armory holds an amazing collection of Russian treasures, including court regalia, jewelry, coronation gowns, armor, golden carriages and some of the fabulous Easter Eggs created for the tsars by Karl Faberge. During your time here, you will also visit the stunning 15th-century Byzantine-style Assumption Cathedral, the oldest and most important church in the Kremlin. It was in this revered Cathedral that tsars were selected and crowned, decrees were read, and solemn rites celebrated.
Leaving the Kremlin, you'll enjoy a relaxing panoramic drive through Moscow as you make your way up to Sparrow Hills. From this wonderful vantage point you'll be treated to some marvelous views of the entire city. Afterwards, a lavish dinner, complete with sparkling wine awaits you. Following dinner, your fantastic day in Moscow ends with a transfer to the train station where you'll board your high speed train for the return journey to St. Petersburg.
