Rail enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy this immersion into Canada's railway system by visiting the Exporail museum, a repository of train cars, streetcars and memorabilia.

Depart from the pier and drive south across the beautiful St. Lawrence River to Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum. Founded in 1961, it now houses a phenomenal collection of hundreds of locomotives, passenger cars, freight wagons, railway buildings and more than 10,000 rail-related pieces of memorabilia. There are even streetcars and a 70-foot-long swing bridge, all beautifully restored to highlight Canada's golden age of rail travel.

During your tour and the free time that follows, you will see countless objects of interest that may include the oldest locomotive built in Canada, the first electric streetcar, a 1938 Buick automobile modified to run on rails for track inspections, and an enormous rotary snowplow that was used up until 1960 to clear snow off the tracks.

The Saskatchewan is the most lavish passenger car on display. It was built in 1883 for Sir William Cornelius Van Horne, president of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Barrington Station exhibit also harkens back to an earlier era; it's a replica of a 19th-century rural flag stop station. Other pieces in the museum's collection are displayed outdoors in the railway yard.

After touring Exporail, you will drive back Montreal following a scenic route across the St. Lawrence River and on to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of easy to moderate walking/standing. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
