After a brief orientation of historic Saint John by land, you'll cruise the Saint John River on a riverboat, taking in the gorgeous lighthouses, classic covered bridges and abundant wildlife.

Boarding your coach at the pier, you'll begin your tour with a drive through town, during which your guide will enlighten you on the unique history of Saint John, Canada's oldest city. Then, during a brief photo stop at Reversing Falls Rapids, you'll observe a natural phenomenon that at high tide causes the Saint John River to actually flow backward. It's a strange sight that lasts for hours, until the tide goes out again and the river height becomes higher than that in the bay.

Arriving at a nearby marina, you'll board the MV Voyageur II, an authentic double-decker Mississippi River boat that was built in Louisiana and once sailed the Mississippi River. You'll spend the next two hours cruising along the Saint John River, which explorer Samuel de Champlain named for John the Baptist in 1604. Prior to that time, the river was known as the Wolastoq, after the native Indians who lived along its banks. As you cruise the river's lower section, you should see plenty of recreational boats, which why it's often referred to as the "Rhine of North America." You'll also see several lighthouses, the nearly 100-year-old Bayswater covered bridge, and perhaps many of the seabirds and other wildlife that thrive in the ecosystem. The setting is incredibly scenic, especially since much of the coast is free from development.

At the conclusion of your river cruise, you will rejoin your coach and transfer directly back to the ship.

Please note: This tour is mostly seated with walking mainly at the guests' discretion during the stop. There are some uneven and cobblestone surfaces and a small ramp to negotiate to board the river boat. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and riverboat, and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Layered clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Tidal activity at the Reversing Falls Rapids cannot be guaranteed.
