A beautiful underwater world awaits you on this tour to two phenomenal snorkeling destinations, complemented by a stop at Fort Beekenburg.
Driving east, you will make a brief photo stop at Kinikini Point, and soon arrive at Caracas Bay for a snorkeling adventure. Considered one of Curaçao's best snorkeling sites, the bay features a shallow terrace that ranges from 15 to 25 feet in depth. Snorkeling along the water's surface, you will observe all sorts of colorful fish darting among the coral reefs. The waters are teeming with parrot fish, angel fish and even more exotic species of marine life like seahorses.
Continuing on, a short drive brings you to Fort Beekenburg, which overlooks the expansive bay. Named for the Dutchman who planned Curaçao's defense system in the early 1700s, the fort was built in 1703 to ward off pirates and French and English vessels and remains well preserved. The fort's round tower was built with materials fabricated in the Netherlands and shipped to Curaçao as ballast.
Leaving the fort, another short drive brings you to the second snorkeling site in Caracas Bay which is highlighted by a sunken tugboat, encrusted with coral and twin-crowned Christmas Tree Worms. The wreck sits upright in 20 feet of water and its wheelhouse lies but 5 feet below the surface. Look for trumpet fish, angel fish, morays and tube coral at this delightful site.
After nearly 1-hour exploring the underwater wonders here, you will have the opportunity to shower and change clothes before re-joining your transportation for the ride back to the pier.
Please note: There is limited walking on this tour; however there are sandy surfaces to negotiate and approximately 35 stair steps at the fort.
