Discover the delights of Curacao both on land and below the surface of the sea on this tour that showcases the best of Willemstad.
Boarding your air-conditioned transportation at the pier, you'll drive through Otrobanda, the newer district of the city and thought to be its cultural center, en route to the "Seaworld Explorer." This state-of-the-art semi-submarine remains above sea level at all times, but comfortably accommodates passengers below in a viewing hull, which sits 5 feet below the water's surface. Fully air-conditioned and with your own private window, this experience offers an incredible opportunity to see under the water without getting wet! The breathtaking views of the colorful marine life and the many different varieties of coral will leave you in awe. To enhance the experience even more, a diver swims alongside the semi-submarine with food for the fish. This brings them right up to the window for intimate photo opportunities. You might spot such varieties as yellowtail snapper, parrotfish, and sergeant majors, all native to these waters. During your time on the submarine, you'll also gain considerable knowledge of what you are viewing via the educational narration provided.
Back on land, you'll rejoin your transportation and head across the Queen Juliana Bridge, one of the highest bridges in the world at 185 feet above sea level. The panoramic views of the city and harbor from this vantage point are simply breathtaking. From here, you will make your way to Chobolobo, the Dutch colonial country estate where the famous Curacao liqueur is distilled. Created from the peel of the Valencia Orange that was planted by the Spaniards when they discovered Curacao, Chobolobo has been producing Blue Curacao since 1946. During your guided tour of the distillery you will gain a good understanding of the process and will have an opportunity to sample the liqueur, which is distilled in 100-year-old barrels. Afterwards, you'll transfer back to the pier or those who wish may opt to remain in town for sightseeing and shopping. The ship is just a short walk from downtown or you may return via taxi at your own expense.
Please note: This tour includes limited walking, mainly at the guests' discretion during the stops and afterwards in town. There are 4 steep steps to negotiate to enter and exit the submarine. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Light-weight, comfortable clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
