Accompanied by our Bon Appetit Culinary Center Chef, you'll travel by safari bus to a biodynamic farm where you'll pick a selection of seasonal produce to be included in your light lunch of delicious local stew, fresh harvested salad, fruits and local juice, which you will enjoy at a unique artist colony in Trellis Bay.

Leaving the cruise pier behind, you will be taken off the beaten track on a scenic drive to the northern shore of Tortola, where the Good Moon farm is perched on a parcel of terraced land overlooking the sea. The farm grows organic produce planted according to the lunar calendar, or "good moon" as it's known in the Caribbean. Amidst these stunning views you will be made welcome with a refreshing tea in garden of the farm house.

The knowledgeable farmers are more than happy to answer questions as you are taken on a tour of the raised crop beds where staples such as lettuce, tomatoes, herbs and pumpkins grow, and learn about the variety of different local fruits and vegetables. Enjoy the experience of smelling the freshly plucked leaves as you join the chef in selecting the available seasonal produce in the locally woven baskets.

From the secluded farm you'll next set-off down the circuitous ridge road east to Beef Island. En route you will catch views of Guana, Necker and Mosquito Islands, homes to the rich and famous, as well as Virgin Gorda, home of the famous Baths. Arriving in the attractive beach community of Trellis Bay, you will find yourself immersed in the relaxed world of yachties, windsurfers and artists.

Already gathering flavor is the stew whose ingredients are entirely local and organic. The combination of flavors from the seasoning peppers and herbs will be new to you as this particular set of ingredients can only gathered together here. At this time of year bok choi, arugula, spinach, beets, cabbage, tanya greens and cassava can be harvested, so it will be a bit of surprise to see what Aragorn has in the pot for you today.

Rastas produce fantastic broths in the "Yabba Pot" when preparing their ITAL food. This is a clay pot which produces a great heat in which vegetables are flavored with coconut oil and scotch bonnet peppers: minimal seasoning, but as you will discover it is not necessary to mask the flavor of fresh harvested vegetables, fresh caught fish, conch, or free range pork or goat.

Your stew will be served in Calabash bowls, handmade and decorated by the artist, farmer and your host, Aragorn. By way of giving you time to digest your meal, you are invited to take a glass of local juice (examples are ginger, sour sop, tamarind, passion fruit, sorrel) and enjoy a stroll along the crescent beach. You might also wish to take a look around Aragorn's art studio (also home to the Caribbean Arts & Crafts Festival) where you will find some unique works of art and perhaps a masterpiece you'll want to take home. This excursion is equally a feast for the eyes!

For desert, and dependent upon what's in season, you can look forward to mango, guava berries or fig bananas. Afterwards, slowly wind you way back to the ship on your safari bus, hopefully with the tastes of Tortola still lingering on your palate.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of mostly moderate walking and standing plus any additional at the guests' discretion at Trellis Bay. There are some steep slopes at Good Moon Farm to negotiate and sandy surfaces at Trellis Bay. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be considered appropriate for those with mobility concerns who are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability.
