Explore the splendid birds, wildlife and Lamanai Mayan ruins during this memorable cruise along the New River.
Depart the pier for the 45-minute drive on the Northern Highway en route to Tower Hill. Upon arrival, you will embark a riverboat for the scenic ride up the New River. While traversing the many little creeks and lagoons, you may spot some of the local birds and wildlife, including hawks, kites, falcons, jacanas and crocodiles.
At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the ruins of Lamanai (Mayan for submerged crocodile) will rise into view. While touring this site, you will see masks depicting dead rulers and gods materialize from the rainforest, and hear the chatter of birds and the haunting call of the howler monkeys. Your guide will point out the copal and ramon trees, which were of great importance in ancient times.
Following your riverboat tour, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.
