Drive through the jungles of Campo del Mar Nature Park on an All-Terrain Vehicle, one of the most liberating and fun-filled ways to explore remote areas.
After a short walk from the pier, you will be transported to Campo del Mar Nature Park where upon arrival, you will receive a safety briefing, your safety gear, and an orientation of how to operator your All-Terrain Vehicle. Following that, you’ll take off behind your guide into the tropical jungle. The advantage of an ATV is that it allows access to areas that most vehicles can’t reach, so it’s likely you will see places off the beaten path in their most natural, undisturbed state.
You can expect to ride through shallow rivers and marshes with mud flying in your wake. It’s one thrill after another, as you negotiate the rugged terrain, much of it only accessible on a four-wheel-drive vehicle. In fact, some areas are so densely wooded that light hardly penetrates the jungle. Yet, there is a path in the understory so you can explore freely.
Every so often, you will pause for photos and to admire the scenery while your guide shares with you the history and folklore of Honduras. You might also ask the guide about the flora and fauna that flourish in the jungle. After approximately three hours (actual riding time on the ATV is approximately ninety minutes) you will find yourself back at the ATV station where you can use the restroom and purchase a cool beverage before being transferred back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximate 90-minutes of moderate to strenuous activity. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests, those with mobility concerns, heart, back or neck conditions; or pregnant women. Participants should be in good physical condition. Comfortable clothing that can get muddy – to include long pants; sun cap; sunglasses, sunscreen; insect repellant; and a towel from the ship are recommended. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory and it is likely they will get wet and muddy. A helmet with eye protection is provided and must be worn at all times while riding the ATV. Minimum age to participate is 16 years of age. There is only one person allowed per ATV and there is a weight limit of 300 lbs. and a minimum height requirement of 4 ft. tall. Guests must present a valid drivers’ license. The local operator requires that all guests sign a liability waiver before being allowed to take part in the tour. There are restrooms at the ATV staging area but not on the trail.
