This wonderful full day tour begins with a relaxing 2-hour drive through the picturesque Dobrudgea region of Romania. As you travel past rich fields of corn, golden wheat, colorful sunflowers and acres of vineyards, your guide will share with you the tumultuous history of this spirited land. You will also gain a glimpse of peasant life here in the Romanian countryside as you pass many small villages along your route.
Arriving in Tulcea, your river boat stands waiting to take you on a marvelous 5-hour exploration of the Danube Delta. The Danube Delta is both Europe's youngest land and its second largest delta. The Delta is also one of the largest and most compact reed areas in the world and has a rich and diverse ecosystem which is a combination of natural and man-made features, fresh water, sea water, marshes and rivers. Located deep within the Delta you will also find islands of old forests with sub-tropical species of vegetation that are considered rare for this part of the world.
During this amazing journey you will discover the natural paradise of the Old Danube as you travel along small canals that showcase the wildness and unique fauna of the Delta. Near Nebunu Lake, which serves as a pelican reserve, you'll be able to observe hundreds of pelicans along with other varieties of birds such as herons, swans and wild ducks, as they swoop overhead or preen on the banks.
As you sail along, you'll be treated on board to a lunch of typical local dishes while admiring the amazing scenery that is unfolding before you. The afternoon includes navigating through the secondary canals of the Delta until making your way back to the Main Canal and Tulcea.
Arriving back at the dock in Tulcea, you'll disembark your boat and re-join your coach for the trip back to Constanta and your awaiting ship.
Please note: This tour is available to wheelchair guests and guests with mobility concerns who are able to make their way on and off the coach and negotiate 5 steps onto the river boat. Caps, comfortable shoes with a non-slip sole and a light jacket or sweater is recommended.
