A short drive through the picturesque tree-lined streets of Sochi brings you to the heart of this fashionable resort city. Disembarking your coach, you'll begin a delightful walking tour along the popular seaside promenade that is lined with charming cafés and clubs. Located along a strip of coastline referred to as the Russian Riviera, Sochi is indeed a jewel of a city. Flanked by the perpetually snow-capped Greater Caucasus Mountains to the east and the brilliant turquoise waters of the Black Sea to the west, there is an abundance of beautiful scenery to behold. Within the city itself are found Mediterranean-styled buildings, luxuriant green parks and colorful local markets. Your route will take you by the St. Archangel Michael church, the sanatoria and Theater Square where you will find the Winter Theater.
Re-boarding your coach you'll next travel to the renowned Matsesta Spa. This is one of Sochi's oldest and most popular sulfur-springs spas and is housed in a palatial building. The word Matsesta literally means "fire water" and was named so by the ancient Adygs. The waters here are said to contain over 27 minerals, including sulfur, iodine and bromine, and are considered to be therapeutic in the treatment of several medical conditions. Time is provided during your visit to stroll around and take some photos before proceeding on to the Botanical Gardens.
The Botanical Gardens, also known as Dendrarium or Arboretum, were first laid in the 19-th century and are located about a mile south of Sochi's town center. During an hour walking tour of the Botanical Gardens, you will observe a spectacular selection of thousands of different species of trees and shrubs. The upper part of the garden features Mediterranean, Far Eastern, Himalayan, Australian, and American sections, and includes an area with plants indigenous to the Caucasus.
Following your visit to the Botanical Gardens, you will enjoy a sightseeing tour through town as you make your way back to the pier. Your guide will be sure to point out the sites of interest along the way.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 hour of walking and/or standing, and is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. A hat and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
