This Chairman’s Choice tour designed exclusively for Insignia’s inaugural return to the Oceania fleet, commences by traveling via colorful local boat from the ship to Athinios, where your air-conditioned motor coach awaits.
It’s a drive of approximately forty minutes to your first stop, a local winery. Here, you will be provided with an informative insight into how wines were once produced in Santorini and learn about the winery’s current products. At the conclusion of your guided tour, you'll be given the opportunity to sample some of Santorini's most renowned wines.
Next, you will make your way to the most northern tip of the island to experience the unique village of Oia. A spectacular small village situated on a steep slope of the caldera, many of Oia’s homes are found nestled in niches hewn into the volcanic rock. Still evident today are the large island mansions that were once home to wealthy seafarers of the past, creating a vibrant picture with their spectrum of pastel colors. As you stroll down the narrow cobbled streets, you'll encounter many quaint shops that offer a varied and unusual collection of hand-made ceramic art, paintings and semi-precious jewelry. Cafés that seem to cling to the edge of cliffs offer spectacular views of Thira and the volcano. Time permitting you’ll have some time on your own to stroll about in the village.
As a special added feature to your Chairman’s Choice tour, you’ll stop at Pyrgos Restaurant to enjoy some wine, Greek mezedes and a folkloric show before it’s time to make your way back to the ship.
Please note: This tour includes moderate walking, at times on uneven ground and cobblestone streets. There is a steep uphill walk and several steps from the parking stop in Thira town to the cable car. Also there are several steps in the town of Oia village. The tour is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing; sun caps; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Those guests making wine purchases at the winery for shipment to their homes are advised that due to Customs regulations, wine deliveries can take up to 3 months or longer.
