Delight in the wonders of historic Cavtat and medieval Dubrovnik on this Chairman’s Choice tour has been exclusively re-designed for Insignia’s inaugural return to the Oceania fleet.
Your excursion begins in the walled city of Dubrovnik, where you will find history is still prominent in the heart of this medieval stronghold. Your walking tour here begins at the landmark Pile Gate, the main entrance to the old city and the beginning of its famous main street, the Stradun.
Along the way you’ll visit the Franciscan Monastery, which houses the oldest still working pharmacy in Europe, opened 1317. Numerous works of art and old equipment from the pharmacy are also on display. In addition, you will visit the Dominican Monastery which houses the finest collection of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Among many local and Italian masters, the highlight is a painting by Tizian. Following your walking tour of Dubrovnik, you’ll have some free time to browse the shops and further explore the old town at your own pace before rejoining your coach for the drive to Cavtat.
Traveling through the countryside surrounding Dubrovnik reveals a traditional side of Croatian life that is quite enchanting. As you tour the village of Cavtat, which was once a prosperous Greek and Roman colony, you'll notice a proud reverence for the old methods, whether it involves fishing or making handicrafts. You can almost feel time slow down as you walk along the seaside promenade and quiet streets.
An added feature of your Chairman’s Choice tour is an inviting buffet lunch at the charming Galija Restaurant which overlooks Cavtat Bay. After lunch, enjoy some free time to stroll about before returning to the ship.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of moderate walking, plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. There will be some steps to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Casual, weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
