Visit the historic Lipica Stud Farm, where the world-famous Lipizzaner horses have been bred for more than 430 years on this memorable Chairman’s Choice tour.
Traveling by coach from the pier, it's a 45-minute drive through the beautiful Karst region of Slovenia. Here, in 1580 Archduke Charles II of Austria built a royal stud farm in the abandoned summer residence of the Bishop of Trieste. Today, that farm for thoroughbreds has grown into the spectacular Lipica Stud Farm, a Slovenian national treasure dedicated to Lipizzaners, a breed known for their noble appearance and superiority in equestrian events.
Your visit begins with a tour of the historic grounds, which includes magnificent stables with dressage areas, a riding hall, small chapel, and lovely manor complex. As you wander along, your guide will explain the stories history of the Lipizzaners, the traditional way they are bred, the riding programs, and how the Lipica Stud Farm has evolved over the centuries. It's an enlightening tour that offers an in-depth understanding of these revered horses.
Still, the highlight is watching the Lipizzaners in action. Known for their light step, proud attitude and marvelous acrobatic feats, Lipizzaners are natural performers that move in complete harmony with their riders. Depending upon the time of your visit, you will either observe a training session or an actual performance. Both beautifully showcase the Lipizzaners' rare qualities and leave a lasting impression. Afterwards, you'll enjoy some free time to explore the grounds further.
As an added feature of your Chairman’s Choice tour, before returning to the pier, you will stop for traditional Karst snacks at a three-hundred year old Gostilna (restaurant).
Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of moderate walking. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability.
