A spectacular blend of ancient ruins and timeless panoramas, this tour begins in Athens at the Olympic Stadium, where the games were played in 1896 and again in 2004. Later, you will make a grand entrance at the Acropolis by entering through the Propylaea, the sacred gates guarding the sanctuary of Athena. Elegant Doric and Ionic columns stand in tandem and the magnificent Parthenon appears before you. It's a remarkable sight, as is the nearby Erechtheion Temple with its renowned Caryatids, six lovely maidens delicately carved into the columns that support the Caryatid Porch. You will also explore the graceful Temple of Athena Nike. Continuing through the outskirts of Athens toward the mountains, you will stop in Attica for lunch, and then drive along the scenic west coast of the Attica peninsula. From here, you will have fine views of the Saronic Gulf and the fertile countryside inland. As you approach Cape Sounion, the southeastern-most tip of the European landmass, the Temple of Poseidon stands majestically on a jagged spur atop the cape. The panorama from this lofty spot is superb with the deep blue Aegean Sea studded with islands before you. The beauty of the temple's surviving Doric columns has inspired many poets, including Lord Byron.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of walking and/or standing and there is a considerable amount of steps to negotiate at the Acropolis (approximately 80 steps), at the Temple of Poseidon (approximately 30 steps); therefore, this tour is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. This tour does not include a visit in the Museum of the Acropolis. The order of sights visited may vary. The actual tour duration may vary due to traffic conditions in Athens.
