After leaving the pier, our tour begins by proceeding along a picturesque and twisting road, passing typically Greek country villages on the way to Epidaurus, which is situated on the cool slopes of a beautifully wooded valley. Epidaurus is known for its stunning ancient theater. One of the most important sanctuaries in the ancient world, Epidaurus was dedicated to the God of Medicine, Asklepios. The world famous Theater of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC, is a marvel of harmony and acoustics and the best preserved ancient theater in Greece. Built out of limestone, it seats 12,000 spectators. Attending the performances of ancient drama during the summer season is an unforgettable experience.
After your guided tour at the theater, you will have free time to take a stroll, photographs, or purchase refreshments at an area café.
After you reboard the coach and return to Nauplion, you will visit the fabulous Venetian fortress of Palamidi with its splendid views over the hill of Argonauplia, the town of Nauplion and the Bourtzi offshore. The fortress is very well-preserved and this great mass of masonry, with walls and fortifications that made it impregnable, broods menacingly over the town.
