It's a brief picturesque drive from the pier to the Massandra Winery vaults, home to one of the largest wine collections in the world. The creation of Prince Leo Golitsin, who is considered the father of Russian winemaking, the collection boasts more than a million bottles of wine from many different countries. Nestled within the Crimean mountains, the winery was originally constructed in 1894 and is decidedly reminiscent of a French chateau. Housed within its walls is an amazing assemblage of wines which includes bottles that are more than 150 - 200 years old. An informative tour will acquaint you with the winery's history as well as the winemaking process. After having made your way through the tunnels of oak barrel-lined cellars, you'll be treated to a sampling of some of the renowned Massandra wines before its time to return to the ship.
Please note: This tour includes over 1 1/2 hours of walking and/or standing, and is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Flat comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
