See many of the sporting venues showcased in the 2014 Winter Olympics, including the Olympic Park in Sochi and the alpine areas that hosted the skiing events.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a scenic drive to the Olympic Park that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics. In the wake of that sporting event, Sochi has become even more of a destination and many of the buildings have been repurposed. For instance, the speed-skating arena became an exhibition center and the main stadium has been enhanced to host the 2018 World Cup.
As you drive through the sprawling Olympic Park, you will learn all sorts of fascinating, behind-the-scenes details about how Sochi prepared for the Olympics and successfully hosted the event. Continuing on, you will drive inland to Krasnaya Polyana, a once modest town that was converted into a massive, modern alpine resort for the Olympics.
Upon arriving, you will have the opportunity to ride one of the ski lifts up the slopes to a height of more than 7,000 feet above sea level, where the views will be breathtaking. Be sure to bring your camera because you will have some free time at the top. In Russian, Krasnaya Polyana means “beautiful glade,” an apt description of the open areas below.
Following this pause at the top of the mountain, you will descend and enjoy a scenic drive to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Afterwards, you will return to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of walking, plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. Total travel time on the coach is approximately 4 1/2 hours. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. The ride on the ski lift is optional and it is not recommended for those who suffer from a fear of heights. Warm, layered clothing; sun cap, sunglasses; and flat, comfortable shoes are recommended.
