On this full day tour enjoy a glimpse at the remarkable highlights of Hanoi, The Paris of the Orient. This cosmopolitan capital city may lack the bustling river life and physical beauty of the Mekong Delta in the south, but its romantic blend of ancient Asia and French heritage will seduce you with its old-world charm. Following the scenic drive from Halong Bay to Hanoi, make a photo stop at the peaceful Tran Quoc Pagoda, one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam and a cultural symbol of Vietnamese Buddhism. Drive to the massive grey marble and granite Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, followed by a stop at the striking One Pillar Pagoda and Ho Chi Minh's exquisite stilted house. Next, visit the serene Temple of Literature, built in 1070 to honor the Chinese philosopher Confucius, before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, drive to the"Ha noi Hilton", the former prison where some American pilots were kept during the Vietnam war such as Senator Mc.Cain and former ambassador Pete Peterson. Take a photo stop at Hoan Kiem Lake, a small body of water and unexpected sea of tranquility at the very heart, literally, of Hanoi. Next, enjoy free time to wander the famed Old Quarter, a collection of narrow streets lined with guesthouses, mini-hotels, art galleries, restaurants, and shops. In the 18th century, each street was the home of a particular craft guild, with small shops dedicated to selling silk, silver or handmade crafts. Today everything from banana pancakes to fake Nikes and T-shirts can be found here in the Old Quarter. After an exhilarating day in enchanting Hanoi, drive back to Halong Bay to re-board the ship.
Please note: Clothing needs to cover knees and shoulders. There will be a few occasions when shoes will need to be removed. Photography and video is not allowed in certain areas of Ho Chi Minh's mausloeum. For your reference, this tour will operate on the 2nd day in the Port of Ha Long Bay.
