Explore the wonderful historic sites, shopping and photo opportunities in the Garden City of the East during this splendid orientation tour of Yangon.

Depart Thilawa Wharf via coach with your guide for an orientation drive through Yangon, the Garden City of the East. The capital city of Yangon is the gateway to Myanmar, the Land of Pagodas. Yangon is filled with lush tropical trees, evergreen avenues, enchanting parks and beautiful lakes, with little of the skyscrapers, crowds and fast-pace lifestyles found in most modern-day cities. Flanked by water on three sides, Yangon offers numerous sightseeing opportunities, from ancient temples to old Colonial buildings.

En route to Yangon, you will pass by the old town of Thanlyin, then cross over the bridge on the Bago River for a visit to the world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda, or Stupa Shwedagon. The 2,500-year-old Shwedagon Pagoda is located on a 190-foot hilltop on the last mountain-spur, or Singuttra Hillock, stretching from the Bago Mountain Range. For centuries, this glittering golden stupa has been highly venerated as a symbol of architectural perfection, and the appearance of Gautama Buddha in the present world. Its spire soars a massive 326 feet into the air, and its dome is topped with more than 6,500 diamonds, rubies and other precious stones.

Your tour continues with a visit to the Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda. Upon arrival, you will learn about the lifestyle of the Buddhist Monk, and view the Huge Reclining Buddha Image housed beneath a large sheet metal roof. The Buddha's head reaches a height of about 2.5 stories, and he is positioned resting on his right side with toes together - apparently in the classic dying position, or parinibbana. From here, a brief refreshment and photo stop will be made at the Karaweik Palace, or Royal Barge, which is situated at the eastern edge of Royal Lake, and in full view of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The Karaweik Palace is actually a reception center in the form of the mythical Karaweik bird. During your photo and rest stop here, a soft drink or mineral water, and refreshing tissue will be provided.

Following your tour, you will rejoin your coach for the 1-hour return drive to Thilawa Wharf, and your ship.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of moderate walking/standing as well as numerous steps to negotiate at Shwedagon. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Conservative attire is required and shoulders and knees must be covered. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. When entering places of worship, visitors must remove their shoes and socks.
