This full day excursion will take you to Arita, a scenic two-hour drive from Nagasaki and known throughout the world as the birthplace of magnificent Japanese ceramics.

In 1604, Japanese warlords from the Arita area invaded Korea, bringing back something quite precious: Korean potters skilled in creating fine white porcelain. Visit the Arita Pocelain Kiln and Gallery where the tradition of skill and beauty brought to Japan over 400 years ago continues. The technique of the Genemon style ceramics is highly valued and was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Treasure of Japan. During the tour, you will visit Genemon Kiln and view their works and factory. Galley staff will explain their works and Kiln. You will also have the opportunity to purchase your own pottery.

Afterwards a short drive takes you to Fukagawa Gallery. Fukagawa is a famous Kiln in Arita and you will be visiting the gallery shop. A short walking tour of the town will show Arita's Tonbai fences made of used bricks and old-fashioned potteries. Following lunch, return to Nagasaki and visit the beautifully serene Nagasaki Peace Park, located a few minutes walk from the epicenter of the atomic bomb blast of August 1945.

Return to the pier and re-board the ship.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 4 hours of walking with a limited number of steps to negotiate. This tour is not allowed for mobility concerns. Casual clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are recommended. We suggest passengers obtain local currency for shopping. The order of sites visited may vary.
