Sail to one of the finest snorkeling sites off Maui’s gorgeous western shore in a comfortable catamaran and behold the teeming marine life beneath the surface.
Depart directly from the pier on a Trilogy sailing catamaran and set off for one of Maui’s premier snorkeling sites. The exact location for your snorkeling adventure will depend on the waters, which are typically clear and calm off the western shore of the island.
As the catamaran sails along, powered by the gentle trade winds, feel free to sunbathe on deck or simply lounge about, taking in the spectacular seaside panorama. Before long, the catamaran will arrive at the snorkeling spot, and the onboard naturalist will describe the various types of marine life usually seen in these waters.
You may spot colorful butterfly fish, parrotfish and bright-orange Hawaiian Bigeyes. The oddly named goatfish is also commonly seen. It has the ingenious ability to change colors to blend in with schools of other species.
Another favorite is the humuhumunukunukuapuaa (humuhumu for short), whose name means “triggerfish with a snout like a pig.” The fish is so well known that it’s often depicted on teeshirts and mentioned in traditional Hawaiian songs. Additionally, you may see a variety of crustaceans, octopi and green sea turtles, which locally are called “honu.”
While onboard the catamaran, you will enjoy a light lunch and seasonal fruits, before sailing back to the pier in Lahaina.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 1/2 hours of snorkeling. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. A swimsuit worn under a cover-up; light jacket or sweatshirt; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a towel from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes or aqua socks are recommended. Those who participate in any water activities do so at their own risk and responsibility.
