Discover the rich heritage of the south with this visit to Boone Hall Plantation, arguably "the most photographed plantation in the world." This historic plantation was used in the filming of the TV miniseries, North and South and Queen; the movie, the Notebook; and most recently the TV series, Army Wives.

The Plantation was part of a series of land grants from South Carolina's Lords Proprietors to Major John Boone, the earliest grant dating from 1681. As cotton became king of Southern agriculture, Boone Hall, a cotton plantation that spread over thousands of acres, became a giant of the Low Country's plantation culture. Boone Hall Plantation has been open to the public since 1956. The McRae Family purchased the plantation in 1955 and it was Mrs. McRae who furnished the house with antiques and began giving tours. Today, the McRae Family still owns the property, and they continue to make improvements to the plantation so that visitors can experience what plantation life was like in the 1800s. As you tour each site on the plantation, the knowledgeable staff will help you understand the day to day activities of those who lived on plantations as well as the history of the people who lived here at Boone Hall. Your tour guide will escort you through the grounds and Plantation House but you are also free to explore on your own as well.

Boone Hall is one of America's oldest working, living plantations and has been continuously growing and producing crops for over 320 years. Once known for cotton and pecans, it is still actively producing peaches, strawberries, tomatoes and pumpkins, as well as many other fruits and vegetables. An incredible addition to the Plantation Grounds is the Butterfly Pavilion where you can see many different species of Butterflies on display and witness the different stages of their life cycle. These colorful butterflies fly freely in a Butterfly garden that allows visitors to experience the beauty of this fantastic species in a natural habitat.

Following your exploration of Boone Hall Plantation, you will re-board your coach and travel back to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes moderate walking over some uneven, dirt and gravel surfaces. There are also steps to negotiate at each exhibit. The tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and may not be suitable for those guests with mobility concerns who are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested. Restrooms are available at Boone Hall.
