Then departing from the pier, you will drive over the Niteroi Bridge, which stretches nine miles across lovely Guanabara Bay. Upon reaching the eastern shore, you will stop in Niteroi’s bustling dockside Fish Market, where the local fishermen bring their daily catch. The variety of seafood is astounding, and includes octopus, shark, squid and corvina. Wandering through the stalls, you’ll hear the fishmongers passionately hawking their fresh goods to the passersby, as they have for decades.
Next, a spectacular dining experience awaits you in the trendy Santa Teresa district, where you will be served a traditional Brazilian lunch at the Aprazivel Restaurant. This stunning restaurant sets atop a hillside and evokes the feeling of a tree house. Tropical birds may be perched in the trees while local monkey’s swing from limb to limb, but the real delight here is in the exquisitely presented Brazilian favorites served in banana leaves and on wooden platters. The menu changes constantly but may include free-range pork with an orange-peel sauce and codfish cake peppered with sundried tomatoes and black olives. Dessert often consists of Brazil nut ice cream topped with sweet compote made with cupuacu fruit from the rainforest.
After a sumptuous lunch you’ll return with your tour group to the ship enjoying a panoramic drive through Rio during which you can view many of the sites in this amazing city.
