Traveling from the pier, you will enjoy a drive through fields of sugarcane en route to the chiefly village of Viseisei. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a presentation of Fijian Song and dance and also take part in Fiji's famous Yaqona (Kava) ceremony. Kava is a tranquilizing, non-alcoholic drink which numbs the tongue and lips and comes from the dried roots of the pepper plant. The ceremonial preparation for drinking Kava is the honored rite of the formal life of Fijians, performed for any significant occasion, including births, marriages, deaths, official visits or the installation of new chief. Caution: It is an intriguing ritual, but an acquired taste.
Next, continue to the famous orchid Garden of the Sleeping Giant which is set within the backdrop of a magnificent mountain (the Sleeping Giant). Following your visit here, you will conclude your excursion with a brief tour through Nadi town which boasts a plethora of duty free shops. Items for sell here include local crafts such as woodcarving, crochet, pottery and colorful tapa cloth.
Please note: This tour involves some moderate walking and there are a few steps to be negotiated at the entrance to the orchid garden.The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and not recommended for those with mobility concerns. Conservative dress is required in the Fijian Villages; ladies should wear dresses that reach the knee or a sarong; sun cap (hats & caps must be removed in the villages); sunglasses; sunscreen; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes. Village sites are closed for tours on Sundays, Good Fridays and if there has been a death in the village.
