It's a short walk from the ship's side to the floating pontoon where your sightseeing vessel stands ready to transport you on a thoroughly enjoyable cruise around beautiful Otago Harbor. Your course down the Harbor first takes you past the picturesque townships of Carey's Bay, Deborah Bay and Acheron Head as you navigate your way to Taiaroa Head. Along the way, the Captain will provide a rich commentary and the knowledgeable deck guides will be happy to further explain the sights you are viewing, in order to enhance your understanding of this unspoiled environ.
From the deck of your boat, you'll have an excellent opportunity for a close-up view of this marine paradise and its captivating residents. Some of the locals include seals, cormorants, albatross and various other waders. It is also likely that you'll be able to catch sight of some of the area's winsome penguins and playful dolphins as well.
Alive with wildlife, Taiaroa Head boasts over 10 species of nesting birds amongst its inhabitants, including the Royal Albatross. This stretch of rugged shoreline is also home to a colony of breeding Southern Fur Seals and a considerable variety of other mammals as well. Adding to the fascinating wildlife the peninsula offers up, the evidence of past volcanic activity and early settlement makes for a spectacular and dramatic backdrop to your harbor cruise.
Please note: Dependent on the state of the tide, access to the floating pontoon may become quite difficult for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Therefore, it is not recommended for these guests. Comfortable walking shoes with a non-slip sole and a warm, waterproof and windproof jacket are highly recommended.
