Your tour begins with a beautiful scenic drive into Kuala Lumpur, where you will first visit the National Monument which is situated overlooking the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, the huge bronze monument was built to pay tribute to the valiant soldiers who gave their lives defending the country during the Communist insurgency in the 1950's. It was designed by Felix de Weldon, the architect of the famous Iwo Jima Memorial.
This will be followed by a photo-stop at the Old Railway Station and the National Mosque. The Old Railway Station is a splendid building in the heart of the city and it's Moorish architecture with graceful arches and minarets makes it one of the city's most photographed landmarks. Located adjacent to the Old Railway Station is the National Mosque, the most distinguished mosque in Kuala Lumpur. It has an unique stylised, star shaped dome representing the 13 states of Malaysia and the five pillars of Islam.
You will have the opportunity for another photo stop at Independence Sqaure, one of the most photographed sites in Malaysia. The former playing field of the Royal Selangor Club, the square is also the site where important events are held such as celebrating Independence Day, the ushering in of the New Year, tourism events and many others. Additionally, you will be able to see the Sultan Abdul Samad Building as well as the 328 ft. high flagpole, reputedly the tallest in the world.
Continuing on, it's a photo stop at the Petronas Twin Towers before making your way to the Kuala Lumpur Central Market. Well known for its traditional handicrafts. A wide variety of wonderful Malaysian items are available here, such as kaftans, silverware, pewterware, glassware, silk batik painting and songet. Following your visit at the Central Market, you'll be transferred to a local venue for a sumptuous buffet lunch.
Your afternoon concludes with a tour of the Royal Selangor Visitor Center. Royal Selangor is Malaysia's largest and most well-known pewter manufacturer and your visit includes a tour of the factory where you will be able to watch the skilled artisans at work. You will also be able to visit the retail gallery where you can purchase some lovely pewter work to take home before it's time to re-board your coach for the trip back to the ship.
Please note: The sights on this tour are not wheelchair accessible and therefore, it is not available to wheelchair guests. There is a substantial amount of activity, including walking, and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Lightweight clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
