The very best way to become acquainted with a destination and truly experience the local scene is to explore it on foot. This wonderful tour that affords you an up-close look at many of the city's important landmarks is designed to take you through Old Dubai, which stands in stark contrast to the gleaming high-rise buildings that define modern Dubai.
Traveling by coach, it's a short transfer to Dubai Creek where you will have a brief photo stop before proceeding on to the Bastakia area where your walking tour commences. This part of Old Dubai is one of the most picturesque historical sites in the city and has been designated as a heritage area. Many of its vintage homes and wind towers have undergone renovations in the last few years and its narrow alleyways have been designated as pedestrian thoroughfares. Your guided walk will lead you past small galleries and colorful cafés before arriving at one of the local residences where you will have a short visit and enjoy some refreshment.
From here, your tour continues towards the Al Fahidi Fort (Dubai Museum) and passes through the old Textile souq, where a fascinating cornucopia of textiles in varying colors and textures are presented for sale. You may wish to return on your own later to do some shopping as the choices here are virtually unlimited and prices are negotiable.
Next, you'll visit the Sheikh Saeed House, a magnificent restored home which was the official residence of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum who ruled Dubai from 1912-1958 and was the grandfather of the present ruler. The home, which dates back to 1896, today houses a rare collection of historic photographs, coins, stamps and documents that chronicle Dubai's history. Following your visit here, you'll next make your way to your final stop, the popular Heritage and Diving Village. Located near the mouth of Dubai Creek, the village serves to recreate life as it was in Dubai in days gone by, highlighting the emirate's maritime past, pearl diving traditions and architecture. Delightfully created displays tell the story of Dubai's rich heritage and provide an attractive venue for local potters and weavers to display their wares. At night, the village becomes a venue for open-air dining and live entertainment.
Rejoining your coach at the village, it's a short transfer back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 3 hours of walking and/or standing, and is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests.
