This driving tour around Colombo showcases its most famed landmarks, leaving you with a wonderful overview of Sri Lanka's largest city.
Boarding your coach at the pier, you will commence a comfortable drive around this energetic city of more than a million inhabitants. There is no easier, more leisurely way to see the absolute highlights of Colombo, the former capital.
The city's modern side is evident in the many high-rises towering above the Fort, an area named because of a 19th century British fortress there. The Fort is also known for the Old Parliament, built in the Neo-Baroque style during the British reign. In fact, the British influence is highly evident throughout Colombo, and you will notice that many of the streets are named for former British governors.
You will also drive past the luxurious Galle Face Hotel, another landmark from the British colonial period. Located right on the Indian Ocean, it is a masterpiece of Victorian architecture. The Pettah, another historical area of Colombo, is a landmark, as well. Formerly an exclusive residential area with stately homes, the Pettah is now the primary bazaar district.
Later, you will see Gangaramaya Temple and a mosque, giving you a religious perspective of Colombo. Higher education is also held in great esteem, as you will see by driving past the Royal College and the University of Colombo.
After having gained an excellent overview of the city, you will drive back to the pier where your tour concludes.
Please note: This tour is a seated panoramic tour that has very little walking.
