Enjoy a captivating day at lovely Cumbuco Beach, followed by free time for shopping at a downtown complex that was once a prison.
Depart from the pier and begin driving northwest, following the spectacular coastline to Cumbuco Beach. It’s a beautiful setting with high white sand dunes and plenty of coconut palms for shade. Although the area was originally a fishing village, Cumbuco has become a popular resort town with its beach being the main draw.
You will enjoy more than two hours here, relaxing in the sun and soaking in the inviting beach atmosphere. While you are free to do nothing more industrious than lounge about or take a refreshing swim, there are plenty of activities available through local vendors. One of the more uncommon offerings is ski-bunda, where adventurers surf down a massive sand dune into an awaiting pond.
Following your time at the beach, you will make your way to the Encetur Tourism Center in Fortaleza, one of the region’s finest locations to shop for local handicrafts. Lace and embroidery are particularly well represented, and you may even see lace makers at work. Other favorite merchandise includes woodcarvings, baskets and clay figurines.
Finally, you will return to the pier, stopping for photos at the English Bridge, also known as the Metal Bridge. Be sure to look for dolphins, which are often seen swimming around the bridge supports.
Please note: Walking on this tour is mainly at the guests’ discretion during free time; however, access to the beach can be challenging and there will be sandy and uneven surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests not considered suitable for those with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; swimsuit; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a towel from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Those who elect to participate in any optional activities, including water activities, do so at their own risk and responsibility.
