See the underwater wonders off Costa Maya by walking along the ocean floor wearing a diving helmet that allows you to breathe naturally without even a mouthpiece.
Depart from the pier and enjoy a scenic drive to the Sea Trek welcome station, where you'll receive a brief orientation on helmet diving. It's one of the simplest ways to explore beneath the ocean's surface, especially for non-swimmers and those who may be uncomfortable using snorkeling gear. If you can walk and breathe, you can helmet dive.
It's easy to learn. Just slip the helmet comfortably over your head, so it rests on your shoulders. Air is supplied to the helmet through a tube connected to an air tank on the water's surface that follows wherever you walk. There's no air regulator or mouthpiece, so you can breathe just like you normally do. You can even wear prescription glasses or contact lenses because your head never gets wet throughout the entire helmet diving adventure.
The waters off Costa Maya are teeming with colorful marine life such as stingrays, eels, spiny lobsters and an abundance of curious tropical fish. Some of the more colorful species include parrotfish, spotted trunkfish and blue tangs. You might even see sea turtles, squid and schools of yellowtail snapper, as you effortlessly walk along the ocean floor.
Following your helmet-diving adventure, you'll have time to relax at the beach and swim or sunbathe before driving back to the pier.
