Starting off from the pier, this pleasant half-day tour commences with a lovely drive to the charming coastal village of Ribeira Grande. Along the way, enjoy some truly wonderful views of the majestic "Serra of Água de Pau" mountain range. Upon arrival in this colorful town with its Baroque architecture, you'll be given some free time to perhaps find some refreshment or do some shopping before it's time to continue on towards Lagoa Do Fogo.
Following a scenic mountain road, your coach takes you to an elevation of nearly 3,000 feet from where you'll have a stunning view of this magnificent lake, also know as "Fire Lake." After a short photo stop, you tour proceeds to its next stop, a local pineapple plantation.
Your visit at the pineapple plantation will provide an opportunity to learn about the different stages of pineapple growing. While the climate in the Azores is not warm enough to grow pineapples, the local farmers have developed a unique way of cultivating this crop by growing them in greenhouses. This also allows them to grow the pineapples year-round and it has become a thriving industry in the islands. There will also be some limited shopping available at the pineapple plantation as well as a tasting of their delicious pineapple liqueur (subject to availability) before it's time to return to the ship.
