Enjoy a full day exploring the many facets of West Madiera on this charming tour. You'll begin your day with a scenic drive along the coast, stopping first at the lovely fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. This delightful location with its dazzling bay was the inspiration for one of Winston Churchill's paintings and you'll be able to capture some photos yourself during your stop. From here, you'll travel along winding roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations as you make your way to the stunning cliffs of Cabo Girão. It's a brief photo stop here before continuing through Ponta do Sol and up Loreto enjoying fantastic panoramic views on the way to Fanal. You will start descending to the north coast through Ribeira da Janela to Porto Moniz.
Descending the north side of the mountain, you'll navigate your way to Porto Moniz, passing beautiful waterfalls and taking in magnificent views of the surrounding coastal waters. Arriving in Porto Moniz, you'll have free time to enjoy lunch on your own and do some shopping before re-joining your coach and traveling into the mountains to the plateau of Paul da Serra. In stark contrast to the tropical coastline, this area has minimal vegetation and the small peaks in the area are the remains of volcanic cones. On the way, you will make a brief stop at a viewpoint overlooking Porto Moniz at the bottom.
Next, it's on to the coastal village of Calheta, passing through the village of Fonte do Bispo and a landscape of lush forests and farmlands along your way. Stopping in Calheta, you'll be treated to a tour of the local sugarcane factory, "Engenhos da Calheta" where you will see first-hand how the local sugarcane schnapps, "Aguardente" is produced and bottled. Following your visit, a relaxing drive along the main highway will bring you back to the pier where your tour concludes.
