À La Carte Excursions | General Information
Add To Plan
Starting off from the pier, you'll first drive to Pico dos Barcelos, a wonderful viewpoint that offers a fantastic panorama of the entire city, including the bay, the harbor and the surrounding hills. After a short photo stop here, it's a scenic drive along the coastal road to the lovely fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. This delightful location with its dazzling bay was the inspiration for one of Winston Churchill's paintings and you'll be able to capture some photos yourself during your visit. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the village before re-joining your coach and heading to the "Adega da Quinta" property, via Estreito do Camara de Lobos, the narrow streets that run along the surrounding mountain sides.
Your visit to the private vineyard includes a look at the Adega (wine cellar) and a sampling of some of Madeira's famous wine and delicious honey cake. There will be some brief time allowed for purchasing some of the vineyard's wine before departing for your next stop, Cabo Girão. Winding mountain roads that pass vineyards and banana plantations bring you to the stunning cliffs of Cabo Girão, the highest cliffs in Europe and second highest in the world. Following a stop here to take photos and enjoy the marvelous views, you'll travel via the main highway back to the pier in Funchal.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/4 hours of walking plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. It is available to wheelchair guests who are able to both make their way on and off the coach and sit in a coach seat. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. A windbreaker or light jacket and comfortable, flat walking shoes are strongly recommended.
