This tour focuses on two aspects of Puerto Montt's history: the beauty of its ancient forests and its German heritage. Leaving from the pier, it's a short drive to the Lahuen Ñadi Forest. Here, tucked away in this natural setting you will discover the ancient Alcerce tree, indigenous to Southern Chile. Because of their ever-escalating value, these majestic trees that tower over the forest have been prey to human greed and sadly, now stand on the brink of extinction. It takes hundreds and thousands of years for the Alcerce tree to acquire its unique form: a trunk that is bare of branches along most of its length, a glorious top which waves like a graceful flag in the southern winds, and a sought-after wood that looks grey on the outside but reveals a rich reddish hue on the inside. Your visit today gives you the opportunity to see these stately giants up-close during a one-hour eco walk that leads you through the cool landscape of this lush green forest.

Following your time at Lahuen Ñadi, you'll re-board your coach and travel on to Nueva Braunau to visit the German Colonization Museum. The museum is located on a farm and housed in a rustic barn. Here, you'll find a private collection of settlers' items and historical artifacts, some of which have never been available to the public before.

Your tour concludes with a visit to Puerto Varas, also known as the City of Roses. Time will be afforded here to stroll along the main square and browse the handicraft market before it's time to return to Puerto Montt.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 3/4 of a mile of walking - at times over uneven natural surfaces, and is not available to wheelchair guests. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. It is suggested that guests dress in layers as the temperature can vary, as well as wearing a hat and flat, comfortable walking shoes.
