Enjoy a panoramic driving tour through the revitalized historic neighborhoods that define Portland, and then stop for photos at Portland Head Light, the state's oldest lighthouse.

Depart from the pier for a scenic drive through the Old Port, where street lanterns highlight a gracious mix of architectural styles. Once the home of the warehouse district, the red brick buildings have been revitalized and transformed into charming restaurants, pubs, unique boutiques, and galleries. Continuing on, you'll pass through other historic areas such as the Eastern Promenade, which offers panoramic views of beautiful Casco Bay from atop Munjoy Hill.

You'll also drive along vibrant Congress Street in the New Arts District, which has become the heart of Portland's cultural resurgence. It's home to the Portland Museum of Art, the State Theatre, Center for Maine History, and countless other cultural gems. The esteemed poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow grew up in this beautiful district and in 1902 his boyhood house opened to the public, becoming the first house museum in Maine.

A bit further south on Cape Elizabeth's rocky shore, you'll see Maine's oldest lighthouse, which perches on a headland in Fort Williams Park. First illuminated in 1791 using whale oil lamps, Portland Head Light stands 72 feet high and is made of stone. Longfellow was a frequent visitor and his poem "The Lighthouse" was inspired by his time there. A thirty-minute photo stop allows you time to peek into the historic lighthouse which contains a museum in the former keeper's quarters. Here, you can discover much about the area's maritime history and how the lighthouse played a key role. Afterwards, you'll drive back to the pier in Portland where your tour concludes.

Please note: This tour includes limited walking, mainly at the guests' discretion during the stop at Portland Head Light. The tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
