This educational tour has you exploring the remote homeland of the Vikings and viewing the northern edge of Appalachia. Make sure to bring your camera and a sense of ages past as you visit the New World's first outpost - the UNESCO World Heritage Site at L'Anse aux Meadows
Boarding your local bus at the pier, you'll head off to explore the home base that was occupied by Leif Erikson (Erik the Red's son) and his crew over 1,000 years ago. This fascinating site is the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America! Step back in time to the first transatlantic voyages and marvel at the hardy explorers who discovered the New World five centuries before Columbus. You will also be able to learn about the lifestyle of those ancient days in the recreated Viking village of Norstead before it's time to head back to the pier where your tour concludes.
Please note: This tour includes a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces and natural terrain. There are stairs to negotiate at some of the sites. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the sites on their own while hosts will be available to enhance the experience. This tour is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair and those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather-appropriate clothing and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested. This tour will operate in school buses.
